December Library Updates
Get your letters to Santa with Library Post
While we can’t help with most postal issues, the library has managed to get in touch with the North Pole to set up a direct connection to Santa.
If someone wants to send their letter to Santa through the Library Post, they can drop it into the special mailbox at the front desk. With the help of some wonderful elves, the letters will get to Santa, who will write a personalized reply and send the letter back within just a few days.
When we receive the letters back from the North Pole, we will call a grown up to let them know they can come pick up the response.
Please get your letters (and any special instructions from a grown up) in by Friday, December 20.
Snowshoes available
With all the white stuff on the ground, we are once again lending out snowshoes. Drop by with your library card, and you can borrow a pair for up to a week
We aren’t quite ready to loan out cross-country skis yet, though. We will start that service once the cross-country ski trails are open, so keep your eyes open for that announcement from the Cochrane X-Country Ski Club! Once trails are open, please remember to submit your request for skis through our website and we will call you once the order is filled.
New arrivals

The Grey Wolf
by Louise Penny
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

The Mirror
by Nora Roberts
When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets. Then one night the mirror appears and Sonya glides through this looking glass, into the past—and sees a bride murdered on her wedding day, the circle of gold torn from her finger. It is a centuries-old curse that must be broken—and a puzzle she must solve if there is any hope of breaking the curse.

The Scarlet Alchemist
by Kylie Lee Baker
Zilan dreams of becoming a royal alchemist, of providing for her family by making alchemical gold and gems for the wealthy to eat in order to stay young forever. But for now, she’s trapped in her impoverished village in southern China, practicing an illegal form of alchemy to keep food on the table—resurrecting the dead, for a price.
Mural a vibrant addition
Although we are still putting the finishing touches on the space, Kat Roy has finished painting the new mural at the library.
We will have an event in the coming weeks where we will invite the community to join us in celebrating the art and hearing from the artist. However, if you’d like a sneak peek, you’re welcome to stop by the library any time.
Holiday hours
While we are still open until 8pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, we do have a few closures to note in the coming weeks; we will be closed Dec. 25 and 26 as well as Jan. 1 and 2. We will also be closing at noon on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) and New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31).
Of course, the Libby application – free to use with your library card – is always open, so you can borrow e-books, audiobooks, and magazines, even if the library is closed.
