November Library Updates
Flashback to this week in history on Fridays
Did you know? The Cochrane Public Library Archives preserves decades of local newspapers, with issues dating back to 1910.
We are offering a new way to browse the collection in November, with a program we’re calling Flashback Fridays. We will pull select issues of local newspapers from ‘this week in history’ and give the public a unique chance to engage directly with local history by browsing historical newspapers.
Join us Fridays in November from 1 to 2pm to participate. We hope the response is good and we can extend the program indefinitely.
If there is a specific person or event that you’d like more information about, you can always submit a request at the front desk or through our website.
Tech Help is moving to Fridays
A long-time library program is getting a small switch up. Tech Help, which has been offered on Thursday mornings for the past few years, is moving to Fridays. Patrons will still get one-on-one help with a staff member to troubleshoot a specific problem or just get more familiar with their device. This free service is still by appointment, so please call to book your spot.
New arrivals

Intermezzo
by Sally Rooney
Aside from the fact that they are brothers, Peter and Ivan Koubek seem to have little in common, besides that they have both just lost their father.
Peter is a Dublin lawyer in his thirties—successful, competent, and apparently unassailable. Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player.
For two grieving brothers and the people they love, this is a new interlude—a period of desire, despair, and possibility; a chance to find out how much one life might hold inside itself without breaking.

The Good Liars
by Anita Frank
Six years ago, at the very start of World War One, a local boy went missing and was never found. So when an inspector arrives at the manor house in 1920 saying that a new witness claims that the boy was last seen there, Ida, Victor and Maurice are shocked. The past is coming back to haunt them, and someone wants their secrets to remain buried.

Far from the Tree
by Robin Benway
Being the middle child has its ups and downs. But for Grace, an only child who was adopted at birth, discovering that she is a middle child is a different ride altogether.
After putting her own baby up for adoption, she goes looking for her biological family, including—Maya, her loudmouthed younger bio sister, who has a lot to say about their newfound family ties. And Joaquin, their stoic older bio brother, who has no interest in bonding over their shared biological mother.
Mural making headway
Our new mural is well underway. Artist extraordinaire Kat Roy has added so much colour to our walls (and our lives), and we are thrilled with the progress so far. Stop by any time to see this huge project and offer Kat some words of encouragement.
Board meetings
Cochrane Public Library Board meetings are open to the public. The next meeting is Wednesday, November 20 at 3:30pm in the board room at the library. If you would like to attend virtually or make a presentation, please reach out in advance by calling the library or emailing library@cochraneontario.com.
New hours, same great facility
We are now open until 8pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, so please be sure to drop by and check out some of our great evening programs or browse the library to see what’s new. With your library card, you can borrow books, magazines, movies, tv shows, board games, puzzles, and more!
