October Update

As the leaves begin to change and we transition into autumn, we’re excited to share some highlights and upcoming events that have been keeping our library bustling with activity.

Ontario Library Week

We have been celebrating by brewing free coffee for our patrons and setting up times for the public to meet the staff, and board.

After-school club and Tater tots

Tater Tot Storytime is a drop-in program, at 3:30 we lean into the little tot’s story, and song, at 4:00 we transition to a big tots’ story, and activity. Feel free to come with your siblings and do both!

After School Club has begun, as well. Each week our group of kiddos grows, and we continue to explore the library, arts, and of course reading!

Cookbook Book Club

The cookbook club is currently preparing for the potluck; this month we have soups on the menu. To participate come on by and pick a recipe from our rotating cookbook, take a copy of the recipe you chose, bring it home so you can prepare the dish for our monthly potluck. This is a great way to try new foods, explore a cookbook in one sitting, and find common interests with group members! November, we have cookies on the menu, come by and pick a recipe!

Public Archive Hours are available Fridays from 1-4pm

We welcome the community to come in, whether you are looking for a specific occasion, or putting together your family tree, we are happy to now offer this service to the public. Partnering with the historical society, and the archive club, we are happy to now offer regular access to our collection. We house over75 years of local newspapers and currently have an only index to help direct patrons to the edition that may have held an announcement for births, marriages, and deaths.

Cochrane Conversations

Cochrane Conversations

This month we hosted Dominic Boucher, and we had a full house of patrons interested in learning about wills and powers of attorney. We hope to have this conversation return with such high interest.

Stay tuned for our next Cochrane Conversation on November 13th, discussing real estate with Jenna Seguin!

Computer 101

Katie has a program running aimed to teach the very fundamentals of computers. She starts with the basic terminology, and after 8 weeks you will be exploring what social media is. The program has been a success, as it wraps up it’s first group we are looking at way to evolve the program to include phones, and tablets.

Home Alone

The home alone course is back and fully booked for October. Luckily, we are offering a second in November. Call to register if you haven’t already!

Exploding Pumpkin/Hallo-week

Here at the library, we love spooky season! We currently have an under wraps program going for anyone who wants a surprise read, that is in season. We also have a number a spooky craft, and programs for the kiddies. The exploding pumpkin event will take place on October 28th, last year it took over 600 elastics before it blew. How many this year? Near the end of the month, we will host trick or treating, staff in costume, and spooky story times.
